Little Bee's Day Nursery and Pre-School is a family run business which places family, community and partnership at the heart of everything we do.
Our setting ethos is “A safe and secure environment for all children to achieve their best.”
This along with the caring, passionate nature of our staff makes our setting that little bit extra special, as we create a home from home learning experience that is catered uniquely to each individual and their family’s needs views, beliefs and routine.
Adopting the theory of child developmental theorist John Dewey who claims that “The value and culture of family and community should be reflected in school life. It is the business of the school to deepen and extend the child's sense of values bound up in their home.” (L. Pound 2006).
The building is a newly designed and furnished establishment that is located within the centre of the town. The setting consists of three large classrooms, a large soft play area, a sensory room, an activity room, and a large communal room.
These rooms have being specifically designed to meet individual purpose, ensuring that light and spacious learning environments have been created.
According to Margaret McMillan (1860-1931) “Children want space at all ages. But from the age of one to seven space, that is ample space, is almost as much wanted as food and air.”
We believe the light and spacious environments we have created enable children to have this want, as the children have a large amount of space to play and explore leading to enhanced learning and development.
We can promise you that your children's wants, needs and development is the most important thing to us within the setting and we will provide, mould, shape and care for your child to the very best of our abilities at all times. We look forward to joining you on this wonderful journey into childhood and development and becoming partners with you the parents, in supporting your child's every need.
Curiosity, Awe and Wonder are three of the key elements in early year’s development. As a setting we aim to give the children the confidence and support to develop these three skills. This is done through the choice of activities and resources provided encouraging a child's natural instinct to explore and be curious. This will be reinforced by the staff's actions and use of language promoting and encouraging ideas and creativity. We endeavour to always follow a child's interest and allow plenty of time for child centred/initiated play and exploration. We believe that the children know what they want to learn and how they need to learn it. We believe the adult's role in this is to support and encourage the children's play and exploration by providing a safe and stimulating environment along with allowing children time to think of new ideas and expand learning in a way they see fit while offering respectful explanations to any questions of wonder the children may ask.
To further encourage this, the setting had three classroom mascots; our curious monkey, our awe inspiring lamb and our dragon of wonder. These mascots will be going home with the children for lots of adventures.
